MYA Basketball Competitive Divisions
What happens in Competitive Divisions?Updated Wednesday August 23, 2017 by Merrimack Youth Association Basketball.
The competitive divisions (Pee Wee thru Senior) teams will form through a player draft process. Coaches will take turns selecting players in an attempt to keep the teams balanced and fair.
Weeknight practices begin the first weekend in November. Teams will have one 90 minute practice on the same night each week for the entire season (November - March). In the first 3 weekends in November, teams will have one 9 minute practice per weekend.
There will be no practices on weekdays when school is not in session (i.e. holidays, vacations, snow days).
Games begin in December. Each team will have one game on either Saturday or Sunday each weekend until the season is over in March. An exception are Divisions with odd #'s of teams. In these Divisions, one team will not have a game each weekend (they have a "bye").
There typically are no games during the Holiday break. There typically are games on either end of the February school vacation.
Every team will participate in the post-season seeded playoff in March, over 2 weekends.
